Arlington Park auction: Everything from horse blankets to drinking glasses are on sale

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) — Arlington Park has nearly a century of treasured memories for horse racing fans and former racetrack employees. It closed permanently last year, but now people have the chance to take home a piece of the track.

Everything from furniture – which includes hundreds of chairs, benches and tables – to horse blankets, drinking glasses and virtually everything else is up for auction.

“Anything with the Arlington Park logo sells for double or triple,” said Rob Kanabay of Arlington Park.

Regina Dryden’s mother, Jeanie Esposito, worked here for nearly 30 years as a mutual teller. She is looking to bid on a bench to keep in her yard to honor her mother’s memory.

“We spent many years here and she always tried to make us a winner. And she did sometimes,” Dryden said with a laugh.

The auction company puts it all up for sale on Wednesday. The auction is online.

Auction items range from a few dollars to thousands. These 30-year-old benches made of Brazilian wood now sell for between $500 and $600 each. But many fans can’t put a price on the memorabilia.

They plan to hold these auctions every week until the Bears complete the purchase of the property, which should happen in the next few months. The track’s owner, Churchill Downs, is expected to make $1.5-2 million from the sale. The auction includes some iconic pieces, but not all
