Most companies, from Restaurants in stores, will be open for Veterans Day, and some will offer discounts to veterans and active-duty military personnel.

Although most banks and non-essential federal governments are closed and mail is not delivered, you can still receive packages from UPS, FedEx, and other delivery services. The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will remain open.

Veterans Day marks the date that Germany and the Allies signed a 1918 agreement to end hostilities in World War I. The fighting ceased at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Restaurants salute veterans and active duty military personnel with free food and offers and other companies offer free car washes and haircuts.

Which stores are open on Veterans Day and are they closed?

Don’t expect national retailers to close their doors on Thursday. Some will hold sales, including the first Black Friday sales.

Same Costco Wholesale Club, which closes for other federal holidays, is open this November 11. Holidays for Costco clubs are closed on New Years Day, Easter, Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Veterans Day 2021 in-store discounts

The following discounts are valid Thursday, unless otherwise noted for veterans, with serving military members also included at most participating locations nationwide. Proof of service such as military ID is usually required, and a few companies allow the wearing of uniforms as ID. Discharge papers, VA cards, and veterans organization membership cards can also be used to prove service in most businesses.

Discounts are available in store only. Consult the list of reviews for more savings online, including at Target, Michaels and Lowe’s.

Are grocery stores open for Veterans Day? Publix plus have discounts.

Feeding lion: 10% reduction for active military and veterans. Show military ID and Food Lion MVP card to get the discount.

Hy-Vee: 15% discount on groceries when shopping in the aisles online with promo code VETERAN15 or in stores by informing “your checker of your military service”. This discount is for veterans and military personnel.

Publish: 10% off in-store purchases for veterans, serving members and their families. Exclusions apply.

Best Friendly Markets: 11% off the grocery bill for military personnel and their immediate families, which includes veterans, active duty military, reservists or retired military personnel.

Winn-Dixie: 11% discount on qualifying grocery purchases for all veterans and active members of military service.

Kohl Veterans Day discount until Sunday

Kohl’s has a special 30% in-store discount for veterans, current and former military and their immediate families Thursday through November 14. Conditions and exclusions apply.

Walgreens Discount for Veterans, Military

Walgreens is offering a 20% discount on qualifying, regular-priced store items until Sunday for veterans, active duty military personnel and their families.

The discount is valid at any Walgreens or Duane Reade pharmacies nationwide with proof of service and myWalgreens, the chain’s loyalty program. Certain exclusions apply.

Office Depot Veterans Day Military Discount

From Thursday to Saturday, veterans, active and retired military personnel, reservists and their dependents receive a 25% discount on eligible purchases at regular price and sale price in Office Depot and OfficeMax stores at national scale.

To take advantage of this special discount, customers must present valid military ID, military ID or veteran ID at the time of purchase.

After Saturday, Office Depot said stores would continue to “support the military community with an in-store discount valid for 20% off an eligible purchase at regular price” with a new military discount.

Staples Veterans Day discount through Saturday

Staples will offer 25% off all in-store purchases to active duty personnel, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and their immediate families at all U.S. locations through November 13 with military ID valid.

Bed Bath & Beyond Discount for Veterans Day

Bed bath and beyond says it hosted a U.S. Armed Forces Appreciation Event on Thursday that offers active-duty U.S. servicemen, veterans and spouses 25% off their entire purchase, in-store only.

Free Haircuts at Sport Clips, Great Clips for Veterans Day

The Floyd Hair Salon: Half haircut with military ID for veterans and service members on active duty until Sunday.

Great clips: Free haircut or get a free haircut card for veterans and active duty. Plus, non-veterans who get their hair cut on Thursday receive a free haircut card to give to a veteran. Cards can be redeemed for a free haircut from November 12 to December 10.

Sports clips: Participating stores will offer free haircuts for veterans and military members with military ID, and Sport Clips Haircuts will donate $ 2 per hair care service to the scholarship fundraising goal of studies for this year’s Help A Hero veterans of $ 1.5 million. Participating locations are listed on the channel website.

Free car wash for veterans, military

Grace for vets: Free car washes at participating locations nationwide Thursday for veterans and serving military members through this non-profit organization. Find locations on Graceforvets.org.

Sheetz: The sites with car washes will also offer free car washes on Thursday.

Offers are available at participating stores on Thursday, unless otherwise noted. Discounts may vary and exclusions apply. Some require online registration and others require proof of service.

Large lots: Continuous 10% discount on everything daily for active duty military members and veterans with a Big Rewards card and military ID.

General dollar: 20% off Thursday through Sunday for Veterans, active duty military, National Guard, Reserve and their families on qualifying in-store purchases. To get the discount, customers must register and complete a military credentials verification process online at Dollargeneral.com/military. Then the discount can be added as a digital coupon on the store’s app and website.

Eyemart Express: Veterans and military families get 20% off all eyewear purchases at stores nationwide with proof of service.

Smartstyle Hair Salons by Regis: Continuous 10% discount on professional products and services with proof of service for current or former military, veterans, police, firefighters and first responders. Discounts may vary by location, which can be found in Walmart stores.

Topgolf: Through its ongoing Heroes program, active duty military and veterans get 10% off the Topgolf game, 20% off select monthly subscriptions, and 10% off events.

Tractor supply company: 15% discount for serving and former military and their dependents with valid military ID or other proof of service.

uBreakiFix by Asurion: Until November 17, the tech repair retailer will be offering military veterans 20% off select computer repair services, including operating system restore and virus removal.
