How Glasses Help Me Relax Before Bed

Once I slid the glasses off, everything in view turned a bright red hue. At first it was a little shocking to see my apartment covered in crimson, but I got used to it after a few minutes. And as I clicked on my laptop (also red, of course), it was immediately clear that the glasses were doing their job. My usual burst of energy was replaced by an overwhelming desire to sleep. I could definitely see why TrueDark doesn’t recommend driving or operating machinery with these. They really support the body’s natural relaxation processes in a way that you can feel right away.

I built up the energy to brush my teeth and get ready for bed (I could also see how many carriers fall asleep with this too!), and that first night I slept through the night without a single one alarm clock that I can remember. The next morning, it was clear that I was super exhausted and ready for a deep night’s sleep, but my electronics habit had gotten in the way.

That was a few weeks ago, and since then I’ve stored my Twilights near my laptop so I always remember to slip them on if I’m using my computer at night. Although their effect was not as overwhelming as the first night, they make me feel even more tired than usual and have had a noticeable effect on the quality of my sleep. An unexpected benefit of these glasses is that by making screens appear red, they make the process of looking at them a little less enjoyable. It made it easier for me to go online offline at a reasonable time, a positive habit for my sleep and mental health.
