TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – First-year student Jordan Stephens capped Alabama’s 9-1 softball win over Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon with a three-run homer to end the game as a rule.

Alabama (9-0) scored three runs in the first and second innings against Middle Tennessee (2-9) to take a six-run lead but failed to put the Blue Raiders in the next three frames , allowing the visitors to scratch a run at the top of the sixth and split Montana Fouts (3-0) bid no-hitter, though the senior pitcher finished with 13 strikeouts. With two goals and one out in the bottom of the sixth, Stephens came to the plate and activated the second pitch, sending it over the left field fence to end the game.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy

“First of all I have to shout out to the crowd again. It’s amazing. I wish I could thank everyone individually for coming out this weekend. Yesterday was sold out and we were again Very close today. It was the best weather day of the spring so far, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more from the fans. Montana [Fouts] fought a bit but ended up with 13K and you have to give credit to Middle Tennessee players for their fight. When you are 6-0 down you want to keep going and we had a little lull in that. [Jordan] Stephens’ big hit in the bottom of the sixth was unbelievable. When a great moment like this happens to a freshman, especially Jordan who worked hard from day one, it’s just amazing. It was a great feeling all around and I guarantee there was a lot of Mudita in that canoe. I’m so happy for Jordan and for our team.”
