After making waves at New York Fashion Week earlier this year, Emhoff took things international to Paris on Wednesday for the Balenciaga couture fall / winter 2021/2022 show. She wore a black suit with a matching oversized shawl, pointy black boots, a sleek bun and glasses.

“Truly unbelievable Instagram of her experience, expressing her gratitude to the fashion house for inviting her to join.

After turning heads with her fashion choice for her stepmother’s nomination in January, Emhoff shortly after signing with IMG Models.

In February, she scored two major achievements in two days: making her podium debut for Proenza Schouler at New York Fashion Week and then landing her first magazine cover.

The fledgling model appeared on the cover of the Spring 2021 issue of European fashion magazine Dust. The former art student and knitwear designer dons one of her own designs, a pastel-colored knit sweater with a teddy bear among other designs.

Emhoff made her modeling debut Feb. 18 in Proenza Schouler’s new collection, unveiled for New York Fashion Week. She was dressed in a few coats (plus a pantsuit), as the creators of Proenza Schouler knew she looked great in a coat.

Designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough said the fashion world quickly noticed Emhoff’s appearance at the inauguration, wearing an original Miu Miu coat with jeweled shoulders and a starchy white collar. Social networks have also taken note.

Shortly after, the designers were planning their February show – actually a digital short, for pandemic reasons – and the casting director mentioned Emhoff. “And we said,” We were just talking about Ella. “It looked like everyone was talking about her,” McCollough said in an interview.

As it turns out, Emhoff, who graduated in May from Parsons School of Design (where Hernandez and McCollough met and started their partnership), had just signed with IMG Models, joining an even bigger star of the inauguration: poet Amanda Gorman.

The location shoot recently took place on a windy weekend at the Parrish Museum in Water Mill, New York. It was the first time Emhoff had walked on a track.

“I have to say I was a little nervous,” Emhoff said later in a streaming conversation with the designers, also posted Thursday.

Ella Emhoff turned heads with her inaugural outfit in January. Soon after, Vice President's daughter-in-law Kamala Harris signed with IMG Models.

“We are convinced that this moment is about the elimination of all that is superfluous, the elimination of excess,” said Hernandez, explaining the philosophy of the collection at a time when fashion itself may seem superfluous. “Just cut things down to their minimum. Basic basic shapes. All buttons are invisible buttons. The pockets are just internal.”

Hernandez said he saw Emhoff represent “this idea of a new beginning, a whole new chapter in American life, American culture.”

“She’s a nice kind of new moment ambassador,” he said, before shrewdly stepping away from any political involvement. “You know, through the filter of fashion, arts and crafts and the world we all live in. She is in a way its ambassador.
