Pokemon Squishmallows are coming, here’s what’s available

Fans of all things cute expressed their delight at news of the arrival of Pokemon Squishmallows.

Squishmallows have become one of the most popular collectible plush toys in North America thanks to their simplistic round design and soft material. If the past is any precedent, Pokemon Squishmallows could become the most coveted of all collections after the collaboration was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.

The official Squishmallows tweet showed two favorites that will be included in the upcoming collection, encased in glass at the event. The bright yellow Pikachu is tall with his red cheeks, chubby arms and signature ears. Gengar has a sinister smile but still looks completely adorable and ready to cuddle.

But are there more on the way?

Cute Squishmallows leaked by Target show future Pokemon designs

While Pikachu and Gengar have been confirmed by Squishmallows, a recent leak from Target revealed that more Pokemon are coming in this surprise collaboration.

A Squishmallows insider said that Togepi and Snorlax are also transformed into cute Squishmallows. Much like Pikachu and Gengar, these other classic Pokemon will stand 14 inches tall, but taller versions are possible.

Jazwares brand manager Aaron Margolin himself called Pikachu and Gengar the “first wave” of the partnership. That means there are more waves on the way with even more Pokemon ready to get that plush treatment. It is unknown how many will actually be made and when they will be released.

“Playing to our strengths with Pokémon to bring fans this monumental new offering takes the Squishmallows brand to a whole new level of pop culture freshness,” said Gerhard Runken, Senior Vice President of Brand and Marketing at Jazwares.

When do Pokemon Squishmallows come out?

Pikachu and Gengar Squishmallows are not yet available. Even SDCC participants couldn’t buy the coveted Squishamllows. Instead, they will be sold on the Pokemon Center website and possibly other retailers.

“I can promise you… We are planning a way for everyone to get their hands on Pokémon Squishmallows,” Margolin told fans.

There’s no specific release date for Pokemon Squishmallows yet, but you can expect them to drop later this year.
